Have you ever seen a person who is in his or her 50s still actively involving in activities of the younger generation while another person who is of the same age may already be bedridden? Just like human, some older cats may behave like active kittens while some younger ones may act like older cats. The environment a cat is brought up, its breed as well as the genetic traits; all play a part in determining how active your cat would be when it grows old. Despite the fact that a lot of factors are involved, the great news is that a cat can actually lives more than 15 years if it is well taken care of. So, do you know how to care for your aged cat?

A very important factor is to make sure your cat is eating the right food. Never feed the left over food to your feline as the food is meant for human. A good and balance nutrition is crucial to keep your cat healthy and happy. Go to any pet shop and you should be able to find the appropriate food for your cat. Feed your cat with the right food appropriate for its age so that it can obtain the correct level of nutrition.
Studies have shown that neutered cats stand a better chance of living longer. Since they do not have the need to explore further from home, the risk of endangering its life and exposing to diseases will be brought to the minimum.
Cats spend many hours sleeping, so it is fine if you see your cat slumbering most of the time. However when it is awake, make sure you spend some playing time with your furry friend. By playing, your feline gets its body to exercise so as to stay healthy. Encourage your pets to play together, but if you have only one pet, get some appropriate toys for it so as to encourage it to exercise more frequently.
Visit your vet regularly for your cat’s check up as prevention is always better than cure. Groom your cat regularly and brush its teeth daily to take care of its hygiene. It is important for you to at least learn the basic knowledge of your aged cat. Just as human, as your cat grows older, its health would also get weaker. Common medical problems like joint stiffness and arthritis, intestinal problems, low immune system, cardiac failure, liver and kidney problems, cancer and others may exist and you should learn to look out for them.
No living things can live forever. Your cat will leave you one day, but till then, give it your unreserved love and care like your very own child. With proper caring and love, your aged cat can at the very least, lives with as much comfort as possible.
